Through the Bible: Every Word Profitable
According to Paul, all Scripture is breathed out by God. According to Jesus, the whole Bible points to Him. And according to our Reformed heritage, a biblical-theological understanding of Scripture enables us to see Christ in every book, to appreciate the covenant running across all its pages, and to draw application from each text. Together we will explore these themes as we survey each book of God’s holy Word.
Church History: The Gates of Hell Shall Not Prevail
How has the Lord Jesus Christ kept His promise to preserve His Church over the past two thousand years? In this two-semester study, we will look at the history of the Church as she has grown, shrunk, triumphed, failed, and militated against spiritual, physical, and ideological enemies. We will begin in the late first century and work our way through to the middle of the twentieth century.
Romans: The Power of God
Romans is often referred to as Paul’s most systematic treatment of the doctrine of salvation. While true, this statement has the unintended consequence of reducing Romans to a cold, academic treatise. Rather, we should think of Romans as a heartwarming letter from one follower of Christ to others, in which he exposes them to the love of God toward sinners and His power unto salvation.
Covenant Theology
This class will seek to explain covenant theology as it is presented in the Westminster Confession of Faith and as it has historically been understood within the Reformed tradition. We highly recommend this course for those who are new to the Presbyterian and Reformed world, as well as for those who wish to grow in their love for the Christ of the covenants.
Reformation Biographies
Many of us are familiar with the well-known names of the Reformation: men like John Calvin, Martin Luther, and John Knox. But what other faithful men contributed to our Reformed heritage? Who were they, and what legacy have they left — a legacy in which we still walk today? This class will examine the lives, writings, and theological contributions of several lesser-known men of the faith.
Heritage of Worship
As one theologian has quipped, “God is a Spirit — and how do you worship a Spirit? However He tells you to.” For centuries, the Reformed Church has understood that God Himself regulates how we approach Him in worship, and this information is found in His Word. In this class we will look at the elements of worship, the places of worship, and the lifestyle of one who worships.
Living in the Church
It seems that no matter where you turn, there is some controversial issue or topic of debate within the broader Presbyterian and Reformed world. Subjects such as Revoice, Critical Race Theory, Divorce & Remarriage, and Christian Liberty & Sabbath-keeping dominate many of our conversations. In this Sunday school class we will seek to engage these — and many other — topics from a thoroughly biblical perspective.
The Church: Her Mission & Ministry
Have you ever wondered what we, as a local church, should be doing and where our focus should be? Of course, our goal is to glorify God, but to achieve that goal, what sort of things should we be doing — as a church and as individual Christians? In this Sunday school class we will seek to understand both the global mission and the local ministry approach for our church.
Proverbs: The Path to Abundant Life
Christ came so that we could have life and have it abundantly, but what does it look like day-to-day? The book of Proverbs instruct the young, reminds the forgetful, and warns the naïve in matters of godly wisdom. This study will work through eighteen major themes found in Proverbs so that we might find wisdom for all of life — for the abundant life.
The Pilgrim's Progress
This timeless Christian classic by John Bunyan tells the story of Pilgrim’s journey to the Celestial City. At every turn it will remind you of your own pilgrimage and encourage you to be steadfast and stay the course on the King’s Highway. The imagery connected to biblical truths will enrich your spiritual life as it has for countless millions of Christians around the globe for over three centuries.
